Les Chahuteuses
(The Unruly Girls)

An exhibition by contemporary expressionist Mark Scarlett based on the

showgirls poster art of the 1900’s by a diverse group of artists based in Paris,

most notable Henri de Toulouse – Lautrec, a Parisian painter/printmaker

whose immersion in the decadent and theatrical lifeslyle of early 19 century

Paris yielded a substantial amount of provocative images of modern life.

For these artists the prospect of lucrative employment meant artists of

outstanding ability began working for the first time in the service of

commerce with their contemporary work becoming icons of the age.

They found their subjects in the dance halls of Paris, like the world famous

“Moulin Rouge”

Mark has taken a similar route finding his subjects in Vera’s world famous

“Dorothy’s Sister’.
